Summer Shakespeare 2019

Female performers are invited to audition for the role of Hamlet for the Wellington Summer Shakespeare production of Hamlet to be staged in the Botanical Gardens in February 2019.
Please note: This audition process is to cast the role of Hamlet only – auditions for other roles will be in September/October.

Hamlet will be played by a female actor with a mixed gender cast. This will be a contemporary, ensemble-based production directed by David O’Donnell, award-winning director, lecturer at VUW and the first person to direct a Summer Shakespeare in the Botanical Gardens in 1990.

Hamlet has never before been performed by Wellington Summer Shakespeare, now in its 36th year. Summer Shakespeare is an excellent opportunity to build your performance skills and to spend summer with a tight-knit ensemble for a a spectacular outdoor production.
The opportunity is unpaid.

Audition slots are available:
Sat 4 August: 9am – 1pm
Sun 5 August 11am – 3pm
Wed 8 August 6-9pm

Note: Callbacks will be arranged with the participants based on availability.

To book an audition (which will be up to 30 minutes in duration) please send your acting CV and contact details to Samantha Tippet:

Please prepare a 2-3 minute monologue from Hamlet for the audition. You may also be asked to sight read a Hamlet scene with another actor.

Rehearsals will begin in October. There will be a break in rehearsals over Christmas/New Year from 23 December 2018 – 6 January 2019. Season dates: Friday 15 February – Saturday 2 March 2019.
