The Summer Shakespeare Wellington Trust Board are announcing that they are taking a hiatus from producing their annual production.
Covid-19 has disrupted all parts of society, and Summer Shakespeare Wellington Trust Board considers there to be too much uncertainty and risk in the current climate to make a 2021 production viable.
The Trust Board will take the opportunity of a break in production to consider its future direction. The Board will consider alternative models of working that best support its values and ensure a sustainable future for an annual production from 2022 onwards.
The Board is dedicated to the role that Wellington Summer Shakespeare continues to play in the development of young theatre makers, as well as those more established, as it supports them in their endeavours to produce full length Shakespearean productions of high quality.
Summer Shakespeare Trust is thankful to its loyal supporters who continue to buy tickets, volunteer, and share a picnic each year as they delight in Summer Shakespeare under the stars.
A call for Directors’ pitches and crew for the 2022 production will be made in early 2021 for a production in the Dell, Wellington Botanic Gardens in February 2022, with auditions for actors to be held in mid-late 2021.
The Summer Shakespeare Trust has staged an annual production in Wellington since 1983.
